A Study On A Practicum - 940 Words

A practicum offers a unique opportunity to utilize theories and competencies learned in an educational setting, and apply them to a real world experience. Additionally, a practicum allows students to experience working within an organizational structure, building interpersonal communication skills, and learning from experience. The ability to apply public health theory and knowledge, while gaining professional experience is an integral part in the course of meeting educational and career goals. In the following analysis, I will discuss how my experience applies to the aforementioned practicum benefits. Biostatistics competencies were the main focus of the completed practicum. Specifically, the practicum allowed me to conduct a statistical data analysis of a study focusing on student performance and integrative health interventions. Using SPSS, I ran bivariate correlations for more than 150 variables. Within the results, I was tasked with distinguishing a statistical association between the variables and student performance. The multitude of correlations will lead to submission of the results for consideration of publication. In addition to bivariate correlations, I also completed more than 250 One-Way ANOVA tests, and 187 Repeated Measures tests. In addition to the SPSS analyses, I also completed a full Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) analysis and calculation, and ran correlations on the results.
